Winter Haiku

The mishmash of leaves
burrow into street corners
Hopefully hiding

Nights turn dark early
Creatures scurry seeking warmth
Snuggling soft, they wait

For winter to creep
And leave frosty morning dew
Frozen, white and calm

Trails start to appear
From gleeful strolls through nature
And fast flees for food

A cold breeze pushes
Against rosy cheeks and chins
Puffs of breath appear

Gently nipping tips
Of noses and numbing ears
Comfort found in warmth

Approach with mittens
Warm woollies for snow angels
Nature’s white playground

Hot cocoa melting
Marshmallows and frozen toes
Outside the cold stays

Sweet memories come
To mind like chilly comforts
Stay close through the storm
